Blow-Out

A blow-out — sometimes called a bath and blow or a fluff dry — is a grooming service centered on bathing and thorough force drying without any clipper or scissor work. The service typically includes a bath with appropriate shampoo and conditioner, followed by an extended force-dry session that removes loose undercoat, straightens the coat, and leaves the dog looking freshly groomed with maximum volume and fluffiness.

The blow-out is particularly popular for double-coated breeds where a haircut is not appropriate (Huskies, Golden Retrievers, Samoyeds, Corgis) and for dogs between full grooming appointments. For double-coated breeds, a professional blow-out is the primary grooming service — these dogs should not be clipped, so the bath, dry, and brush-out is the full extent of their grooming. The force dryer does the heavy lifting, blasting out loose undercoat and leaving the remaining coat clean, separated, and free-flowing.

For groomers, blow-outs are a profitable service with lower skill barriers than full grooms. They are faster to perform (typically 45-90 minutes), reduce tool wear since no blades or shears are used, and appeal to a broad client base including owners of breeds that do not need haircuts. Many salons offer blow-out services at a lower price point than full grooms, which attracts clients who might otherwise skip professional grooming entirely.
