Mobile Grooming

Mobile grooming is one of the fastest-growing segments of the professional grooming industry. A mobile groomer operates from a custom-equipped van or trailer that contains everything found in a traditional salon: a grooming table, tub, water heater, force dryer, storage for tools and supplies, and often a generator or shore power connection. The groomer drives to the client's home, parks in the driveway, and grooms the dog inside the vehicle — eliminating the stress of car rides, kennel waiting, and exposure to other animals for the pet.

The mobile grooming business model offers significant advantages for both groomers and clients. Clients pay premium prices ($80-150+ per dog, often 30-50% more than salon rates) for the convenience and reduced stress. Groomers enjoy complete independence — no booth rent, no commission splits, no salon politics. They set their own schedule, prices, and service area. Overhead is lower than a brick-and-mortar salon once the vehicle is paid for.

However, mobile grooming requires significant upfront investment. A fully equipped grooming van costs $40,000-$100,000+, and financing options for specialty vehicles can be limited. Mobile groomers also deal with challenges that salon groomers do not: vehicle maintenance, fuel costs, weather-dependent scheduling, limited workspace, water supply management, and the physical wear of climbing in and out of a van all day. Building a route-dense client base that minimizes driving time is essential for profitability.
